 The Bee

(1/2) > >>

xyzt:
The picture is taken from the book by Michael Field and Martin Golubitsky, SYMETRY IN CHAOS, published in 1992.
Nearly thirty years after I graduated and bought the book, I was not able to reproduce this fractal.
Could anybody give more information on the attached picture?
The only reference in the book reads: The Bee.
Pedro.

Alef:
This must be a julia set. I guess, power 3 (simmetry axes) and some transcendental function must be involved.

claude:
Looks to me like an iterated function system with one affine transformation plus symmetry.  You might be able to recreate it in Apophysis / Chaotica / Fractorium or similar fractal flame software.

C0ryMcG:
I agree this looks very much like an IFS or flame style fractal. The main shape is replicated in all the details without change except for shrinking/skewing.

There was a time when I could have imitated it in Apophysis, but it's been so long I don't remember where to begin...

xyzt:
Thanks to the three. 1/4 of my life has pased since I could have (probably) reproduced it myself. I guess C0ryMcG is in similar context. Anyway, I will dedicate it some time and post any results.
This thread is still open and help is welcome.
Pedro.
