Announcing FracTest: a Mandelbrot zoomer for explorers.

After many years of on-and-off development, I'm putting FracTest out to air to see if it's of interest to folks.  FracTest isn't designed to be particularly the best at anything; however, it does have some nice features:
  • FracTest indexes all of the fractal images (created by FracTest) in your library, organises them into a containment hierarchy, and displays the outlines of in-view images over the current view.  This is designed to help with exploring, and understanding how the views relate to each other.
  • Saved image files contain complete meta-data, and are restartable and resumable
  • Designed for long renders (like weeks), with checkpointing to resume in the event of a crash
  • Reasonably fast, with unlimited precision (tested to 10^6500), multi-threading, and cluster computing
  • Detailed manual: http://moonblink.info/FracTest
Sorry, but no perturbations -- that's really hard, and doesn't fit well with the way that FracTest is currently built to do multi-threading.

FracTest is written in 100% pure Java; so it's portable, but requires the Java runtime.

If you're interested, full download and install instructions are here: http://moonblink.info/FracTest/install
