(Other) Paper fractals
« on: May 01, 2018, 09:57:19 AM »
Fractals are only one of my hobbies. Other hobbies are origami: https://figuer.deviantart.com/ and papercraft and kirigami: https://julofi.deviantart.com/
Anyway, I have made some fractals of paper. I hope you like them.
The first one I made it using origami. There are other fractals in origami but this star is my own design:
And the other one is a papercut. I designed the fractal with Apophysis7x but then I noticed that it was possible to turn it in a kirigami pattern, so I printed it and cut it. The second picture is exactly the same papercut as the last picture, I got that effect by increasing to the maximum the contrast with Gimp.

yeah, that star is really cool. how the hell does one come up with such a design?! (I've wondered about that for all origami stuff. my brain just doesn't work like that ;))

I arrived there, to that fractal star in 2009, bit to bit, through a process that lasted years and that begun in 1991. That year, I combined folding sequences from 2 figures in a book and added my own folds to create an original star. In the next years I created several variations of that star and I discovered on my own how to nest a star inside another one. In 2005 I combined an idea discovered by other author with my own methods to fold stars and got a new base much more versatile than the one that I had used before. In the next months and years I invented hundreds of variations (see Stars of Eden series in my figuer account in DeviantArt). In 2009 I decided to nest a star inside of a star inside of another star getting a fractal with 3 iterations.
So in origami you discover things like in another fields, upon the previous works of another people and adding your own ideas.
