Not fractal-related, but I find the idea nevertheless quite interesting: The 10000 domino computer. A youtube video by standupmaths from 2014:

I wanted to try this myself, however not physically - too much space needed (and I wouldn't know where to get 10000 domino pieces anyways). So I implemented it virtually in C++ with a primitive GUI.

Code and binaries are here (1-bit adder and some boolean gates working).

Has anyone constructed an entire number adding computer that way?

Pretty awesome. But even I would not be patient enough to watch that calculate the Mandelbrot set. Well... maybe for a very low resolution.
Z = Z2 + C (obvs)

@mrrudewords:  ;D

Would be interesting to know how often the guys in the video had to build part of their domino computer again and again because some pieces were pushed accidentally.

The big problem here is synchronicity. In the virtual one all pieces fall equally fast, but in the real world - if one line is slower, addition is faulty.

When I add the biggest numbers in my virtual one (1 + 1 !) it takes about 5 sec for all pieces to fall. Not sure, how many bit operations even a low resolution Mset needs.

For all computer geeks over a certain age.........
