Just one thing - I have loads of fractal related docs/pdfs/txts collected over the years (from around 1999 on) the majority of which are still useful technically and others nowadays historically ;) I'd love to make them available for download from FF so FF itself hosts them i.e. they don't get lost if my own sites die etc. also I think they deserve better than just posting either as a huge post with attachments or many single posts with attachments, they could really do with an actual section for downloads......in some cases they seem unavailable elsewhere now :(

I'll have to ask Fraktalist and 3d but that seems like a nice idea.

Well, I think that is a very kind thing to do.  And perhaps others want to 'donate' some things as well.
Why not make a section in for example the downloadpages off FF.  ?  I think it is a very good and nice idea!

Be sure to check copyright and redistribution status...

A pdf or technical documents section in the downloads area might be a good thing

;) Some are source unknown, some have unreachable authors and some do have authors who could probably be contacted first....I'll do my best to check first, but if "status unkown" or unverifiable I'd like to either a. Upload them anyway and add an appropriate disclaimer/statement of removal immediately if so required - or b. If a. is not OK then in important cases take the salient stuff and write an appropriate doc myself - referencing the original links, author and original publication as far as possible ;)

NB. A couple are such that the background math is beyond my academic knowledge, in those cases if the items can't be made public directly perhaps someone more formally in academic math could produce a better version than myself.......I believe there are several such scholars/tutors on here, I actually essentially stopped formal academic math at 18 i.e. below University level !!!!

One example is the alternative method of true iteration smoothing that will work in cases where even the "auto-power" adaption of the Vepstas' method doesn't work.

I'd be happy to host them on my wiki.  :)

Ooo - that's super, I'll get to sorting them out - I'll have to boot up an old Windoze PC to retreive some of them I think !!

Would you be OK with direct download links to the files in your store added in a download section on FF ?

Hey FractalDave!
I split the topic, makes sense imho.
Nice offer indeed. The download section is not very populated, it was Sockratease area, so nobody is really taking care of it.
It would be nice to revive it.

Regarding copyright:
As the site is registered under my name, I don't want to be involved in uploading possibly copyrighted material.
Quick research tells that we have to check if stuff uploaded by users is copyrighted and make sure that we guarantee a quick removal if there are any copyright claims. We can definitely guarantee the latter.

How about you do these uploads and take responsibility for them? In case we ever get a complaint we will take that file down immediately. I think we should be safe this way.

I changed your permission setting to "Uploader" so you should now be able to upload your files to the new category I created. (If you think it would be a good idea to add more sub categories, tell me which and I'll set them up.

I was hoping that would be the case - basically the same as the rules on YouTube i.e. in the cases where it isn't possible to verify permission then add it with the disclaimer and guarantee of removal....though of course on YouTube they go to the point of allowing folk to say they claim no copyright and post copyrighted stuff anyway, within limits !!

That's great, thanks, I'll get to it....am letting UF work on a disk render at the moment anyway ;)
