Hi!

I am a newbie using Ultra Fractal 6.02 (64-bit) and just started going through the Tutorials.

Q# 1. Is the default image size of all fractals 800 (w) by 600 (h) at 300 PPI?

Q # 2. At the end of the day, I want to render JPG images 16 inches (w) by 12 inches (h) at 300 PPI for giclee printing.  How does the above size relate to the final rendering?

Thank you!

Dr. T

#2: pixel count is the only thing that really matters, the inches and PPI is just metadata that you can change later (changing PPI affects the inches size and vice versa, if you keep pixels constant).  inches * pixels per inch = pixels.  so (16,12) * 300 = (4800,3600) is the resolution you want to render at

You can change the default image size in the settings: View | Preferences | Defaults.

As was mentioned, the pixel count is the important thing for rendering images. You may want to use anti-aliasing when you render and/or over-sample. I generally render at 3 or 5 times the final image size and then reduce the image and sharpen. That process tends to improve the look of fine details.

Dear  lkmitch,

Thank you for your reply!

You suggested rendering the image 3 or 5 times.   I understand.

What about the image size when I first create the fractal? If I use 300 PPI and I maintain the aspect ratio, does it matter if the image is smaller and, thus, easier to work with?
