Is there a way to make a fractal out of photos or saved images?
« on: January 05, 2018, 08:22:01 PM »
Hello to everyone here  :D

Its been very recent since I had begun to dabble into this endless realm of fractals, and gotta say I'm already kinda obsessed with them  ;D
Mandelbulber is pushing me a step further into an even more wondrous plane of 3D fractals.

What I wanted to ask is if its possible to turn ANY image into a 3D fractal, similar to what this site (http://www.malinc.se/m/ImageFractals.php) and other programs do for 2D fractals. I'm a beginner at this program and fractals in general which is why Im asking you guys :)

Thanks and have an excellent new year :D

Hi abbaddon1001,
Your question is similar to the question I asked earlier in this sub forum.
So far the only way I can introduce 'real world' graphics is with backgrounds. I found it's best to use a background that is the same size as your final render size.
Then it will scale down neatly to any smaller size.

Your question got me thinking of using a real image to make a 'material'. Then it would be transferred to the resulting fractal. I suspect the image would end up unrecognizable in the finished fractal.

The fact MDBB has almost no user input methods outside of the software, is interesting in itself. In my view the pure maths produces pure art and I can live with that. I can easily use a 3D fractal in Gimp to make more art. Imagine if the West Coast hot rod guys realised they could use fractals to CNC machine and 3D print custom cars?  O0

Hmmm, I guess the background is the closest thing I'll get for now. Thanks for answering :)

I am already imagining the possibilities from 3D printing custom cars
