I've just had a crazy idea. It would be great to be able to use any 'real world' JPG or PNG image as 'fract1' and then render any other fractal with it.

So 'fract1' renders as it would normally in an image viewer. A car, a cow, a person, whatever.
It would not be processed by the fractal software (no mathematics applied to it).

On Mandelbulber it would need transparent 'materials' which are not available.
Interested in any other thoughts. :toast:

Do you mean to use jpg image as a background for fractal image or something else?

Hi buddhi,
"Do you mean to use jpg image as a background for fractal image or something else?"

Something else. I would like to use an image in a 'fractal slot' so it can be modified by real fractals. It would have to be a 'passive' or a 'neutral' virtual fractal.
Some fractal artists regard the 'real world' as a fractal, and the real world is constantly being captured by cameras. If sound can be an input to fractal creation
then images should also be an input.

If this is already possible then please excuse my ignorance. ???

I still cannot imagine what you mean. Can you try to make some kind of sketch (e.g. in Photoshop) to show me the idea?

@Tas_mania :  It might be possible if an image contained the math and logic that was used to create the image and if that math and logic was compatible with the fractal program you are using, or if it contained camera, depth and light information too, but it's just pixel color data ??? that might be used as a stream of numbers for input to a function, perhaps instead of a random number generator ? but aside from this an image is a texture mapped to background or object surface in varying ways like direct mapping or projection, it's not a "fractal" it's an image of a fractal.

Do you mean an icon representing a fractal function that can be dragged'n'dropped to different positions in the gui representing the fractal generator logic ???
Resistance is fertile... you will be illuminated!

3dickulus, I think you understand what I was trying to explain. It looks like I would have to convert an image into a fractal using a 'fractal compression' algorithm.
It seems Michael Barnsley has been down this road before holding a number of patents in fractal compression. (He got a $2.1million government grant to do this?)
Something that came up in a search was the google 'deepdream' neural network. I used it when it first came out but now they want your CPU cycles. I will feed some fractals into it and see what they look like.
