I once saw a picture of a zoomed in 3d fractal with photos on its surface. I was wondering exactly what the procedure is on "orbit trapping" or "pasting" images on fractals?

Forgive me if the question is dumb, I am still learning about 3d fractals through this program and fragmentarium.

Thanks!

look at the texture examples, using values from the fractal as an index into the image you want on the surface, you can also use scripting to fetch images from a pre-rendered sequence or video frames to animate the surface appearance

the index can be calculated as simple xy coords or spherical coords or any way you want

Matt Benesi created some great examples that can be found in the Examples/Benesi folder :)
Resistance is fertile... you will be illuminated!

Wow...animations on surface? Thats pretty wicked. I'll try that as soon as I get back
Also, can mandelbulb3d generate 2d fractals like the mandelbrot set? And can you map animations onto those sets if its possible? Thanks

oops, I have inadvertently hijacked a Mandelbulb3D thread,  :-\  I was referring above to FragM but Mandelbulb3D also has lots of examples, not sure about 2D or "image pasting" though ???

Ah, well no worries XD its only helping me get to know about fragM more lol

Came about this only today. In case you are still interested:

On the lighting tab check Use a map for the diffuse color. Then below choose either norms, wrap1 or wrap2.
It's just a jump to the left...
