I also remembered that Karl Runmo also made an attempt to include it, but didn't get the anticipated results. Your statement is also part of the reason it yielded this kind of result. Would it require a new mechanic to make it work?

There'll be another point release of KF 2.14 this month (probably) as I fixed some annoying small bugs (thanks to everyone who reported, keep them coming!)

changelog so far:

- set image size after window size when loading defaults (fixes strange skew)
- refactor default loading (now it loads default location kf.kfr from next to EXE, as well as default settings kf.kfs; defaults are only loaded when respective command line options are not given)
- don't recalculate fractal when changing window size
- fix buffer overflow crash in iterdiv -> string for GUI, also fix loss of precision
- fix typos causing last few pixels to be corrupt in SIMD
- fix store zoom out sequence image saving when zoomsize < 2

How would you implement the Magnet fractals? Is there some secret to it? I know it's really difficult to implement, but it might be doable in the future...

Bug: Kalles Fraktaler sometimes crashes when interacting with the imaginary dialog of the Location dialog box.

Please give more precise instructions to reproduce a crash.

Sometimes, it occurs when I click, then hold to select the numbers on any text line. I also noticed that it crashes randomly when I do that, not just the imaginary location text.

I could not reproduce this on Windows 10.

Could we get rid of this annoying dialog? For my use cases enabling derivatives is faster.

https://mathr.co.uk/kf/kf.html#kf-2.14.10.2
KF 2.14.10.2 released!

plenty of bugfixes

  -  store zoom out sequence was saving JPEG contents in PNG filenames sometimes
  -  store zoom out sequence was forcing some kind of center reuse even when not requested (reported by saka and Azula)
  -  store zoom out sequence was sometimes not saving metadata in image files correctly
  -  setting bad SIMD vector size in KFS could crash (reported by FractalAlex)
  -  setting window size/image size from KFS should be better behaved now
  -  refactor default loading (now it loads default location kf.kfr from next to EXE, as well as default settings kf.kfs; defaults are only loaded when respective command line options are not given)
  -  don't recalculate fractal when changing window size (reported by FK68)
  -  fix buffer overflow crash in iterdiv -> string for GUI, also fix loss of precision (reported by FK68)
  -  fix typos causing last few pixels to be corrupt in SIMD
  -  remove annoying dialogs about derivatives (requested by gerrit)
  -  upgrade to boost 1.73.0
  -  upgrade to mpfr 4.1.0
  -  upgrade to tiff 4.1.0
  -  upgrade to glm 0.9.9.8
  -  upgrade to openexr 2.4.2
  -  don't upgrade to pixman 0.40.0 (pixman bug #43)

This is hopefully the last release in the 2.14 series, if there are no more annoying bugs (but please do keep reporting them!).  In August I'll probably have more time to resume work on the 2.15 branch.

Rather than donating to me for this release, please consider donating to your local stroke care charity.

Claude, why do these bands appear even if we're on the real axis past e10, while being on a zoom point close to -2±0i? They do not appear on Fractal eXtreme... It occurs on fractals with low bailout values.

I think because of bailout value.

I think the near-vertical bands at the left are a combination of low bailout radius and smooth colouring method - can choose linear (better for small radius) vs log (requires larger radius).  The final Z magnitude is taken into account for smooth colouring, which makes the outside of the escape disk not necessarily featureless.

Maybe worth checking, in case of a bug: do they change if you disable series approximation? Series approx is currently only used for Mandelbrot and Burning Ship (and that only to a limited extent).

Even if I disable series approximation, the vertical bands on the axis near -2±0i are still present, past e10. As I told earlier, the bands do not appear on Fractal eXtreme.
