At the end of this zoom, the minibrot is a circle instead of a mini-brot.  I don't think I ever saw that before.  But curiously  at a point in the zoom, the circle switches from purple to white.

Why would it be purple, if it is within the set.  And if it is not in the set, why would it switch to white at a specific magnification.

Thanks,

Marshall

Guesses here:
1. circle because iteration count is not high enough
2. purple because not finished rendering
3. white because 2.13 had that as default (latest version lets you change it)

Post location (kfr) if you want me to try it and avoid this guess work...

Yes you just need to increase iteration count from your ~7M, I tried 10100100 and the mini started to take shape, attached is with 15100100 (and log-de colouring to avoid so much aliased noise).

Ok, thanks.  Could you explain how the maximum iterations entry works.  When you start a new Mandelbrot it is set by default to 200.  Then as you zoom in it keeps increasing on its own.  But for this example it seems it did not increase enough by itself.  After putting a number in by hand it seems to be locked in place.

I am not sure when I need to pay attention to this entry, and when not to.

Thanks,

Marshall

You always need to pay attention to it if what you see doesn't appear to be correct. You can hold your mouse cursor inside a problematic part of the render. The bar below the view shows the number of iterations at that pixel (I:200 would mean 200 iterations). If it turns out the maximum number of iterations was reached and what you're seeing is not a minibrot, you need to increase it. The program increases it automatically based on how fast it usually grows when you're zooming but you can't rely on it. Go to "Actions" -> "Iterations" (Ctrl + I) to change the maximum number of iterations.
