(Solved) bad analytic DE/slopes when series approximation is disabled
« on: June 21, 2020, 02:49:02 PM »
KF-next has bad analytic DE/slopes when series approximation is disabled (which is automatically done at zoom levels below 1e3).  DE has wrong magnitude (colour bands don't line up).  Phase is likely incorrect too.  Makes zoom out sequence keyframes not match up, causes very visible breakage with exponential map.  Not sure what is going on here...

Implemented analytic DE+slopes for hybrid formulas using dual numbers, no issues found (nor when using hybrid formula to implement M-set).  Still investigating the breakage with regular Mandelbrot set formula.

tested with burning ship.  hybrid mode (left) has no issues; standard mode (right) has horizontal stripes visible all the way down.

tested with buffalo.  all fine with hybrid formula editor (left), original formula (right) has bad DE/slopes (period doubling phase effect)

tempted to just delete all the formulas that can be recreated with the hybrid editor and convert them on load, because fixing them all might be hard work.

Fixed it by rewriting the DE-related things.  Still don't know what was wrong before...
