@Fraktalist
Can you try testing uMatrix to block images selectively?
I was able to block external and only allow FractalForums.org or block all images.
If this works for you on mobile, then the forum does not need to change?!

thumbnails are supposed to be just that: thumbnails. Used to presere bandwidth while showing if you like it enough to click and load the full view.

no, addons are not an option. this is not for me personally but for every user.
Having threads with 75mb size is not necessary and simple to avoid. If people don't "bypass" our simple rules

not going to participate in any png vs jpg compression discussion. we're here to show of a few nice images.
increasing the filesize 10 times to achieve some 5% quality improvement is not efficient. Okay in special cases, but if this gets overused we will make the max filesize smaller.
which would suck for 4k images.

let's just avoid extrarules and use common sense, ok?

Thanks for distorting my comments. :'(

The term "Devils advocate" may not translate very well to your language.
I stated "Worst case scenario"

Do you require low resolution thumbnails for every image?
That was not communicated clearly in the forum's beginning.

Quote: "increasing the filesize 10 times to achieve some 5% quality improvement is not efficient"
That is not an accurate statement.

Images start out as uncompressed and PNG uses lossless compression.
Jpeg at 100 already distorts and at 75 seriously compromises detail.

you're welcome.  >:D

No extra rules for strange loop holes.
We don't want to make a rule for every idea/eventuality someone might come up with.

The world if already too full of rulesrulesrules.
Let's just use common sense. and a 720pix png at 5mb is not common sense.

not going to participate in any png vs jpg compression discussion.
going to listen to some lossy 192kbit mp3s, just to make sure I don't care.
Pc is better than Mac, android better than windows phone and chrome better than firefox! there you have it!

Let's just use common sense. and a 720pix png at 5mb is not common sense. (That is correct )

Five 720pix PNG attachments at 1 Meg each is common.

Ultral Fractal and Mandelbulb3D both output PNG format.

I believe you are missing the point about my linked images.
They have already been downsized and saved as jpeg.
If I take the original files and resize/save as a 720px png which is currently allowed, they would consume more bandwidth.

FYI: Moore curve drawn with epicycles

14.8 meg linked gif

BUMP!

I have recently had an excuse to exploit the Image Threads board for a test and I find that it is a good thing, I like it, but will probably not use it to the extent that other users might. I am more interested to see what kind of feedback it generates than I am in having my renders appear in the Recent Topics/Posts list. I have about 8 more thumbs waiting to go into that thread and I hope that mine is good example of how these  Image Threads can be used, as others are also good examples but different. I am reasonably sure that my implementation of DB's fold is lacking and possibly mathematically wrong... but the pictures are nice ;)
