Curious what CPU you all render with.  I have AMD Ryzen 2700x (Zen), quite happy with it.

This information may be useful to fractal software authors, to know for which architectures to target optimized builds.

Comments with rendering software used could be useful too.

I'm using a 16-core haswell CPU: E5-4667v3. It's a slow server CPU but it's good for rendering because it's efficient and it has a high core count.

I will maybe buy a threadripper when the next generation of threadripper CPUs is released. The first generation didn't have 256-bit AVX but the next generation will have that and it's expected to be faster and more efficient overall.

 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz

But for me more important is to have good GPU, where is real computing power. Actually I have GTX 1050 + GTX 1060 + second PC with Radeon RX 580

I built a Threadripper 1950X machine late in 2017. I am not unhappy that it has already been superceded by the brand new Ryzen 3900X. Buddhi's point about GPU computing still stands, of course, but renewed competition between Intel and AMD will result in more computational power available to consumers at lower prices. We don't quite have that level of competition in the GPU compute market right now.

I look forward to seeing what smart people will come up with to squander all those compute cycles on. :)

I specifically wanted an unreasonably oversized personal supercomputer so that I could obtain results even from rough and inefficient algorithms. It's a machine for experimentation. Heavy rendering work, fractal and otherwise; weird numerical experiments; perhaps the occasional simulation. A tinker box.

I can't honestly say that the machine is worth its price. But it's the thing I dreamed of when I was a poor kid. And it certainly succeeded in bringing back some of the enthusiasm I had back then for fractals, computer graphics, and experimental programming. So I don't really regret not having spent that money on other, perhaps more important things.

Mac: i5 @ 3.3GHz, Radeon M395,   5K Monitor     <- sleak 27" iMac, dead silent, refurbished from Apple store)
Win: i5 @ 3.2GHz, GeForce 640,     4K Monitor     <- faster rendering, but noisey

I must be the lowest (speed & price, $1600 each)
But then you all need more speed than me.
If a render takes more than 1.5 seconds, I won't attempt it.
