Hi  Sabine62,

Wow, what a wonderful and comprehensive list. Well done  ;)

I'm sorry to hear about Paul Lee.

I am the author of ManpWIN and I would like to give an update.

I have recently added perturbation to this program,  with the help of Claude, and have also released a 64 bit version as well. Latest release date is 28th May 2019.

32 bit version: http://www.deleeuw.com.au/download/SetupManpWIN.exe
64 bit version: http://www.deleeuw.com.au/download/SetupManpWIN64bit.exe

This is an useful resource. Is it pinned here somewhere? If not, could we do so?  I think we should add a special category for where the author is a regular contributor to this forum and is actively helping users.

Hi Paul
I tried to donwload it but something is blocking. It seems some browser virus detection.
the internet explorer show the file size but donwload just a 0 bites one and mozila didn't donwload it.
I already donwloaded v3.04d and it get the file but it was asking for a vcruntime140d.dll and didn't run.

Hi Gerson,

Thanks for letting me know.

Are you running Windows 10? It should have vcruntime140d.dll. It also runs on my Windows 7 laptop. I'll see what I can do. If others also have this problem, I can add vcruntime140d.dll to the installation program.

Which version are you trying to run, 32 bit or 64 bit version? If the 64 bit one fails, try the 32 bit and lit me know how you go. I'll find a way to make it all available for you.

Thanks  ;)

@Gerson Maybe the problem with downloading may be due to your anti-virus program blocking .exe-files?
@LionHeart Maybe in general it would be an idea to offer your program as a zip? I know I myself find downloading any .exe-files a bit daunting, and when they are wrapped in a zip I can virus-scan first after downloading and then execute ;)
Still have to try your newest version myself, btw :) I'm looking forward to fing out what pertubation adds and also am very much welcoming a 64-bits version! Thank you so very much for sharing  :worship:

Hi Sabine62,

The installation EXE file does a lot more than just contain files. It sets up registry and desktop icons etc. I guess I could offer a zipped version of the installation program. But I have found that many virus scanners read zip files anyway. In extreme cases I have renamed the zip file to something like .zm9 to get around virus scanners. It gets tricky.

Are you able to download my program yourself without issues?

Please let me know. Thanks.

Oops Sabine63,

I forgot to answer your comment on what perturbation offers. It is faster than my old MPFR arbitrary precision library for deep zooming.

The animations I showed at the end of https://fractalforums.org/programming/11/perturbation-success-story/2826/new#new took hours instead of weeks to build. This link shows the highlights of my journey into perturbation.

The actual technical assistance on developing perturbation can be found in https://fractalforums.org/programming/11/perturbation-code-for-cubic-and-higher-order-polynomials/2783/new#new

It is something I wanted to do for a long time but never understood until Claude showed me the theory of how it all works.

So enjoy  ;)

@LionHeart
Thank you for your reply!

I understand what installers do/are, that's not what I meant to say. I guess I was not that clear... In the past I've had anti-virus scanners that would just refuse to download ANY exe-file (though they would download msi's or zips containing the installer). I thought, maybe that is what is happening at gerson's end ;)

I have used an older version of your program, so am very much looking forward to what your improvements will bring in the newest version, will deepzoom away  ;D ;D ;D

And yes, I can just download your .exe  :)

Hi Paul, forget that dll problem. I ran a file that I thought was a portable version and it give me that message, but I instaled version 3.04d 64bits on win 7 and win 8 and it ran ok.
I already got many old version of your program and just now it is not donwloading. All other software, including .exe (yesterday I donwloaded new .exe version of mandelbulber for example) is donwloading.
I agree with Sabine, you could do two version. One with instaler and other portable (just unzip files and use it).
I liked very much you provide Tierazon filters.
Suggestion: implement a "save as" option to save image and parameter file at same time and program put the name automaticaly as
"manpwin 2019-05-30 10;22;50", that is: name of software, date and time. Fractal Zoomer and Infinity Fractal now do this, similar to Tierazon.
I got a problem when ran it on a notebook with win8. The Fractal status information's window is taller than the height of the screen, so the ok button was inacessible and window culdn't be resized and it didn't let to close, so I needed to restart the computer to continue using Manpwin. I didn't test other windows.
I need to understand how Perturbation works yet.

Hi Sabine62,

I'm glad you could download it. Hopefully you are now running version 3.04e. Perturbation starts off slow as there is no solid guessing, but it doesn't seem to get much slower when passing the end of the precision of the math co-processor. The main cause of slowing down is the higher number of iterations often required at deep zooms. I have set a hard limit of 5,000,000 because of the memory used for palette management at this high iteration count. Because the perturbation uses an entirely different engine to "normal" fractals, many of the goodies are not available... as yet. I have put in a few basic filters however.

Have a play with "Attractors from Oscillators" as well. They're cute  ;)

Hi Gerson,

If you already have installed the program, then you only need the updated ManpWIN exe files. Here are the links:

http://www.deleeuw.com.au/download/Manpwin.exe
http://www.deleeuw.com.au/download/Manpwin64.exe

I'm not sure I want to force everyone to use the same file-naming convention. If I keep it free as possible, then the user can make up their own mind. The whole purpose of ManpWIN is to be as generic as possible and to allow exploration of the widest set of fractals. This is in the tradition of Fractint, on which much of the inner workings of ManpWIN is based.
