Don't know if anyone's aware of Bejan's Constructal Law (https://mems.duke.edu/research/energy-technology-and-thermodynamics/bejan-constructal-law). Quite fascinating and is associated with a few iconic images, many of which show fractal type properties (self-similarity and branching in e.g. trees, river basins, lungs etc.). Although Bejan himself is somewhat dismissive of fractal geometry as being only symptomatic, and not explanatory, of underlying principles, nevertheless the association between these 2 fields is evident.

I am (was) not aware of Benjan's theory. But I just watched a you tube, read wikipeida, and read abstracts of a couple of papers. So now I am in expert.  ;)

From that meager sampling, he mentions the arrow of time frequently. Which is not surprising since thermodynamics is listed as his research area. Several authors have discussed the relationship between chaos and arrow of time. (James Glieck for one, I think. Don't ask me for citations right now…)

He defines his constructal law as “For a finite-size system to persist in time (to live), it must evolve in such a way that it provides easier access to the imposed currents that flow through it.” The definition puts the law in the realm of dynamical systems, one of our favorite sources for fractals and chaos.

I haven't read much, but my crackpot alarm is starting to have some imposed currents flowing through it.
Not ringing yet, but, well, I better read some more.
