thanks mclarekin. what I do not know exactly is whether the mengerfold is normally only used in a "mengerbox". and whether the two folds (menger- and octo) replace others. I use both (and now also the "boxfold3") in addition to sphere and standart boxfold. I have installed switches and can switch all folds on + off. but without sphere- and boxfold the fractal looks a bit poor :) I am only surprised that both are asymmetrical first. I need a lot of time to find the right values. but adjusting works differently for me than in other prg's. I use midi-slider for almost all important parameters and see the result in real time. vvvv and shadertoy are fast !! ;) in any case very interesting. the shape changes considerably and folding fractals are my favorite.

Menger Fold can be used anywhere it works as a fold (with or without the scaling and adding of constants). It was initially implemented  so that the menger formula could be split into two parts and used in hybrid mode     i.e  slot#1 T> Menger "fold part only" , slot#2   anything you want to test,  slot#3   T>Menger "scale and add constants parts"   Like in formula Menger Middle Mod. 

But you can use T>Menger and T> Octo anywhere for one or more iterations depending on DE quality e.g   pseudo Kleinan,  BoxBulbs. When you break it all down they are just cool folds.

Benesi T1 and T1 Mod  are good too, introducing the "Magic Angle" fold,  and prism shape  introduces 60 deg folds

I nearly always use T>spherefolds and T>Boxfolds , and then use other folds to tweak some variation .

Yep the assymmerty was a surpise to me too.  It shows up with  certain coloring techniques

thank you for your answer. menger- and octofold are a great enrichment! I will also look at the others. have been looking for variations for my box for quite some time. just should not be too computationally intensive, because my system works in real time. everything that needs not more than 45 iterations to look good works. it gets bumpy about that.
