Image of the month contest.  May 2021.

The rules are as follows:

- Every user can submit ONE cool picture to become our fractal image of the month.
  Images must be your own creation! Production date is unimportant.

- Please give it a good name, and add interesting info, like software/formula used, parameter sharing is very welcome! Use a good resolution (HD =  mandatory) but remember the max. size allowed. 3840x3840 Max filesize: 5.01 MB
If it is too big, I have to rescale the image to upload it to the winners gallery. It is better that you do it yourself (quality etc).
   Images must be fractals, created with fractal software, postproduction is allowed. Such as saturation, contrast as.

- To participate, just post in this thread and attach the image to your post. (don't use the gallery)

- The first two weeks of the month are for suggestion, until the end of  the 14th of the month,   00.00 hr. midnight  (A'dam time)  Any entry after midnight will be removed without warning, even if the topic was not locked at the time. (my mistake but I can't sit every month waiting till midnight) So midnight the 14th, no later.
   Check your local time here:
You can change your entry during this period. You will loose the votes that have been given and start fresh.

- Please vote for each entry once (using our voting system bronze, silver and gold -  1, 2 and 3 points) Thumbs are nice, but don't count.
  This voting period is from the beginning of the contest, until the end of the 27th of the month.
Same thing, no votes after midnigth the 27th. The winners will be announced the next day, at the 28th. You can change your vote during the entire period. Voting will be stopped at 00.00 hr.  midnight  A'dam time.  Check your local time here:   https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/netherlands/amsterdam

- Top3  will be displayed in the Winners gallery when voting is closed, and at the end of the year in a best of the year
- We want to try to revive the printed fractal calendar idea. So any submitter automatically accepts that his image can be used in the
  calendar if it wins.    (all money from the calendar goes into the further development of fractalforums.) https://fractalforums.org/fractal-image-of-the-month/70/pdf-calendar-2020/3263

- After the winners are announced, the winning images will be presented in the 'gallery of fame' to honor the winners and their Art.
  The winning images are presented in this gallery, which will grow to become a "best of" gallery:

- Post any questions, or suggestions you have here: https://fractalforums.org/fractal-image-of-the-month/70/fractal-image-of-the-month-discussion-thread/150

Please start admitting your best work now and most of all.... have Fun!   :thumbs:

"Decreasing Purity of Energy Drink"

Made with Ultra Fractal.
I'm only a lucky guy who loves making fractal images or animations with a can of energy drink on my desk,while the other miserable persons was working overnight and slowly destroying their health with also cans of energy drink on their desks.There's nothing to do but to sigh and watch a black dot of sympathy growing in the surface of my drink like mold.
What a strange description...

"Jormungandr, the World Serpent"

My spherical bas-relief style keeps meandering, evolving, random-walking further. Now with proper stereographic projection. This causes the whole sphere to be covered with the dominating structures of the place you zoomed into. Eventually there will be an animation of this particular planet rolling below the orbital observer.

This cellular rendering style with shaded displacement is one of the more interesting results I've been able to push onto pixels with my renderer written in Golang. I've found logarithmic transforms to bring new life to common 2D escape-time fractals.

It's a plot of:
Code: [Select]
z = z * z + log(c) using an orbit trap that produces integer (cell color) and floating point (halo / bound) shades. The integer value selects from a list of possible texture mappings and the shade applies a rotational distortion to the wrapped toroidal texture.

More specifically, I calculate the texture + shade with:

Code: [Select]
z := complex(x, y)
c := z

i := 0
mIter := i

m := cdot(z, z)
min1 := m
halo := 0.0
bounds := 0.0
min2 := 10000.0 * min1

for i = 0; i < maxIter; i++ {
  z = cmplx.Log(c)+cmplx.Pow(z, 2)
  m = cdot(z, z)

  if m < min1 {
    min2 = min1
    min1 = m
    mIter = i
    halo = 1.0 / (math.Sqrt(min1*min2) + 1)
  } else if m < min2 {
    min2 = m

  bounds = math.Pow(1.0-(min1 / min2),.25)

col := float64(mIter) / float64(maxIter)
shade := bounds * halo

Then scale the shade after all pixels are computed (find the lowest + highest values across the matrix and interpolate between 0-1)
Code: [Select]
shade := (shadeBuffer[y][x] - shadeMin) / (shadeMax - shadeMin)
Using a rotational displacement with:
Code: [Select]
  a = a * math.Pi / 180.0
  xr := (x - xm) * math.Cos(a) - (y - ym) * math.Sin(a) + xm
  yr := (x - xm) * math.Sin(a) + (y - ym) * math.Cos(a) + ym

Applied as:
Code: [Select]
  l := len(textureMap)
  x2,y2 := rotate(float64(x), float64(y), 0, 0,  shade*strength)
  imgY := int(float64(y2)*scale) % l
  imgX := int(float64(x2)*scale) % l

I don't think I would make something till the end term. So here it is. It's the repeating image intended for another thread but...
Alsou I at first uploaded this to the deviant art portal. Sorry, I hadn't read the rules.
