Well thank you Sabine, but as 'moderator'  I don't participate and I don't vote  :)  But I do enjoy all the great fractals that are submitted.  And I'm real glad to see you on the forum again, for I know you are very busy  :toast:  So cheers girl  ;)

even if you magically arrived at a system that made everyone happy, it would still ultimately be a popularity contest, because of course it is.  the point of something like this should just be the fun of posting images with that understanding in mind.  for instance i know nobody here likes me but i might still post an image once in a while anyway just for the fun of it

I might dislike some of your views and how you respond to certain things, but that doesn't mean I dislike you overall. You got some deep and appreciated knowledge about fractals.

Sabine, the limit is set globally for the forum, would make sense to raise it a bit for the contest if possible.
But then again, 5mb is plenty to show a proper quality. And if we find out it is not for the, then Caleidoscopes idea is a good way to go.

It's your decision Caleidoscope if you don't want to participate in the contest, but as we all shouldn't take it too seriously, I think it's fine if us staff participate as well and think your images would really add to the contest.

One thing I should mention: I'm not sure if we  will have a calendar from this year, as we started in the middle of the year and would miss 1st places, have to add 2nd and from the previous discussions, I fear this would lead to trouble.
But we probably have the option of setting up all images and maybe even a pre-selected calendar at some print service, that then everyone can buy there by yourself. Would also easy the shipping and payment stuff and people could exchange images if they want.
Just a quick thought.

Yes yes, please, just join in whoever wants to participate, moderator or not :) It's just for fun, and I couldn't care less who can vote for whom, btw (re: voting for yourself ;) ) as long as I can vote for other people's awesome stuff

well of course anyone can always just make their own thing, the fun of something like this is to have some "official" sort of thing to put out there right?  just fill in the gaps with second places, a lottery, whatever, no sense in waiting a whole year just because somebody might not like how you did it   O0

the rules for September state (my bold):
Quote
Images must be fractals, created with fractal software, postproduction is allowed.
what about fractals created by other means? eg, photos of natural fractals, or capture of analogue video feedback, or messy drip paintings, or hand-drawn designs, or scans of photocopier voodoo, or non-fractal software, or ...

Well, I think not  C:-)  it is stated in the rules  >:D that you have to use fractal software.  I'm afraid otherwise it wil be uncontrollable and unfair in equality as.  But I'm just one person. ;)

But I do think that it is a great idea for a contest with indeed, making every other kind of fractal, or photograph of fractal in architecture, in decoration or make it yourself with clay or 3d print or even a sand mandala...... It is a fun and challenging idea.  ;)

Hmmmm a question about max. attachment size.

What is the max attachment size for this forum? I need to know to prepare a smaller/lower res version of the image I want to submit to the contest.

It's indeed 5 mb. max.  What you can do is resize your picture a bit (make it smaller but don't change the quality if possible) and when it is a winning fractal, you provide the bigger version off it, probably by mail or filesharing.  That will probably be necessary for more participants.  That, or you can give a link (extern website) to the biggest version you want, in the description ...?   Maybe that's an idea?  For as far as I know it is not possible to allow a bigger size just on the image of the month, no possibility for exception.

How can we improve the Contest  "Image of the month"  ?
More participation, more voters, more alive ?
