Oops, I might have done some more serious googling  Found the explanation of the Boolean bit after all on the Incendia-wiki page, at least if that's what the Mandelbulber-formula does, alternating two sets of parameters depending on negative/positive real axis as conditional quaternion julia.
But still, can you tell me how it is implied in Mbulber?

Since OpenCL has been implemented, boolean is now much faster.    Union mode  is the fast one, and feasible to animate with high end GPU.

I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with, and "learn on the job", the open source Mandelbulber project.

I am very familiar with Boolean operations, used to design circuits with IC's which consisted of ANDs, NANDs, ORs, XORs, that's probably why my curiosity was appealed to to start with

As to how those could possibly be used to create fractals I could not imagine  But using them to combine fractals into hybrids, yes! Used to show either  or both or all of a pair or a few or a whole set, or only the pixels in common, or just either of them depending on conditions... I think the DEcombinate mode in Mandelbulb3D might be based on this idea, and I can see possibilities in Fragmentarium, where we already have the  min/max  function in the final DE-generation to combine two DE's (min(DE1, DE2)  ) in some formulas.

I'll let this sink in and have some play-time, maybe this might be a way to hybridize formulas via #includes some way...
