(Other) A new style of fractal imagery using fractal neural style transfer
« on: August 21, 2020, 05:53:18 AM »
I've been experimenting with generative adversarial neural networks to perform style transfers over fractal image seeds. I don't quite have the computational horsepower to push the detail as high as I'd like to go yet, but this direction looks very interesting, as a new "style" of artwork.

"We need to go deeper."

Here's an experiment with taking two custom algorithm composites (https://fractalforums.org/fractal-mathematics-and-new-theories/28/additive-complex-number-transform-tracing-with-bresenhams-line-alg/3726), then running 2 neural style transfers, compositing, and running a neural style transfer over the final result.

The first image looks kind of like something Escher might have painted.  With the blue coloring of the center and the vaguely "sail-like outlines" in the middle,  it looks like a strange port city.  (But his would probably have floating rolpens from his picture "Curl-up", or have them crawling around the edges.)

Would there be some way to calculate a depth map of some kind from the image?

I'm not sure exactly what that question is asking.  For instance, something that would render the circular shape in the top 18% of the image in the center as a circular alcove, and the vertical "struts" directly below it would be rendered as "walls" around a "bay"?  I'm thinking a point cloud that could be played with in MeshLab or something to make a 3D printing model.

Nice! Fwiw, here is a deep dream from one of my cubic Julia sets:
It's a Fractal Life, 247... ;^)
