For the past week or two the rate at which things have accumulated views has been significantly depressed, perhaps a third of what it had been December to early March.

Now, it's been two full days since anyone uploaded any images, either to the galleries or to Image Threads.

It's as if the site has been hit by some kind of malaise or depression, reducing participation ... and whatever the cause is, it's getting worse.

Either there's a technical problem that's deterring participation ... lots of spurious error messages and frustrating retries needed to do things, say ... or else it's psychological/sociological, in which case I don't have the faintest clue how to fix it. Is there such a thing as an online-communicable form of clinical depression or similarly? (Scary if there is!)

Whatever the cause though, I know if I were an admin I'd be very concerned if something is causing people to suddenly start abandoning the site in droves. :(

recent logs don't show anything terribly unusual, I think the bad bots and script kiddies are being blocked more so the number of views registered may be affected by that and it's Spring (here at least) finally! so maybe people are just going outside more? oh and all of the #FacebookDeletes may have an impact too.

We haven't made any changes that might cause this but we will be keeping an eye on it.

I'd say it's getting urgent. On my last refresh, I think I saw an actual tumbleweed blowing down the length of the main page, snagging for a moment at the corner of the Recent Images box before coming loose again and rolling off the edge next to the privacy policy link.

The odd thing is the daily visitor-maximum is still hitting the mid double digits. But next to no participation ...

it's the decline of fractalforums that startet 2years+ ago and for much too long no action was taken.

with ff.org we're progressing slowly, but things won't get back to the buzzing activity from a few years ago for a long time.
all we are doing is providing a platform, making sure it stays alive, improving it where possible.
the content and art that will draw more users will have to come from the current users.
invite others, start discussions that are interesting, post interesting stuff.

also: the statistics say different than your perception

look at the bottom, march is fine and not even finished.

Whatever the statistics may say, recently we've had days sometimes go by without a gallery upload, and there seem to be only two people posting to image threads anymore. This wasn't true December, January, or February.

What happened, did someone post a TVTropes link or something and half the forum's population is still digging themselves out from under a mountain of browser tabs?
