It may be of little interest, but MB3D comes with an official major update to the mesh-generator.
In fact, the module was rewritten, in order to achieve the following goals:
 - get much better results
 - to be much faster
 - (optionally) generate color-information
 - make it simpler to use
In short: make it fun!

See the included image "BulbTracer2.jpg" for a visual overview of the changes and have fun!

Cheers!

Note: To use MB3D, the "Init Dirs" list will need to be set to the current directory.

Main window > Prefs > Init Dirs ... change all "D:\GFX\Mandelbulb3Dv199\" to the folder you have unzipped Mandelbulb3Dv199sr7.zip to. > Save & exit

Mandelbulb3Dv199 had a points cloud option. So I could create color meshes in MeshLab from the points cloud.

Mandelbulb3Dv199sr7 does not have a points cloud option, but does have a "Calculate Colors" option for the obj mesh generation. However, MeshLab shows the mesh as grey and does not find any related texture information.

It appears that there is Vortex color information in the file. However, Google points out that "Obj file format is officially not able to transfer Vertex color". So I am guessing that the vortex color information is targeted for a specific mesh program??????

As shown in the comparison image, color-information is provided as uv-coordinates, which adds a lot more of freedom, than just to add fixed colors. It also makes the mesh file smaller.
Just apply a gradient or texture to your mesh, this should be supported by any 3d-software, it even works in good old Bryce :-)

Cheers!
