Hello,

if you are using chrome or MS Edge, you can save the Webm video from the player (télécharger = download):

Because  Firefox or Safari cannot support conversion from canvas to Webp image (necessary step for encoding to film), on these browsers it is not really  a film but slides of PNG images.
I have developped a module to produce Animated PNG instead ogf Webm but still not have it implemented in Mandelbrot & CO.
If you are interessted I've loded it to Github : https://github.com/raph-of-burgondy/APNG-Builder

if you need to convert film to other format, you know how to use ffmpeg https://ffmpeg.org/, do you ?

#### Mandelbrot & Co adopts the 16:9 format

« Reply #17 on: May 31, 2020, 09:22:58 AM »
hi guys,

Thanks to all your feedbacks and suggestions,  I am pleased to announce that Mandelbrot & Co https://www.mandelbrotandco.com has finally adopted the 16:9 format for its explorer. The 16: 9 format was already available for downloading images, but the 1:1 display did not allow the result to be previewed. It's finally fixed!

This new release brings some important evolutions :

- Layout: the general layout of the various elements is rethought with the arrival of the 16:9 format : the navigation icons, the filters menu and the Julia's settings overlay the main view. The videos are now accessible via the menu Dive in .

-  Auto/Manual main view size : Mandelbrot & Co intends to offer you a navigation throw the fractal sets as smooth as possible . The 16:9 format is clearly more pleasant but also requires heavier calculations. Mandelbrot & Co adjusts automatically the view to your screen, in case of performance issues you may want to downsize the view. Use the new menu Parameters to do it.

- Julia parameter: the parameter can now be entered or chosen directly from the points of the Mandelbrot set with a real-time preview. Video explanations:

- Animated PNG : Safari and Firefox don't support the encoding method used by Mandelbrot & Co for editing Webm film. It's possible now, on both browsers, to save short films with the Animated PNG format. This format is quite similar to Animated GIF. You can convert to mp4 with
ffmpeg(https://ffmpeg.org :

ffmpeg video.anpg video.mp4

- drag and drop to reload : images edited with Mandelbrot & Co are now saved with metadatas. These metadatas contains the coordinates of the image, so if you drag and drop the image on the main view, Mandelbrot can "reload" the image so your exploration may go on.

- pan view : click and hold the mouse to pan the view if you want to change the frame, details on the video :

If you encounter any bug, please send me message !

Liked a lot how the julia's parameter is choosen now.
About free size and zoom control do you intend to change?

Hi,

Julia's setting : thanks, i like it too

custom size : yes I intend to do it. As you know Mandelbrot & Co https://www.mandelbrotandco.com/en.index.html divides the image into chuncks and run in parallell these chuncks on all the logical processors of  your computer. Well,  a little stupid bug occurs when the custom height is not a multiple of the number of processors... And I have to find time to fix it.

zoom : You mean the  the zoom by scrolling ? I changed it, didn't I ? I may mess it up...

By the way, I am working now to implement the perturbation algorithm. Unsuccessfully.
see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plotting_algorithms_for_the_Mandelbrot_set#Perturbation_theory_and_series_approximation
There is something I obviously not understand in this algorithm

Could you, or anybody on this forum, indicate me a more detailed process  ?

Thanks for you help,

Good improvements.
About perturbation algorithm, I think LionHeart was discussing about that in some topic to include in ManpWin. Try to get contact with him.

It's really interesting... well done. I would like to see the source code but didn't see a "download" button any where... after all, this is the "Downloads" thread.

Hello everybody,

well you are right this topic may not be  in the right thread, but.... as far as it's a serverless webapplication, all files are downloaded on your browser. You can even see the source code in the devlopper window (CTRL+SHIFT+I for Chrome, Edge or Firefox).
About a download button, I was thinking about it. It's pretty easy (but not perfect) to make a release as a desktop app thanks a tool like https://www.electronjs.org/. But in fact,  it would be difficult for me to maintain both releases on browser and on desktop.

Anyway, I was coming back in this forum to announce a new release for Mandetbrot and Co https://www.mandelbrotandco.com/en.index.html

This new release corrects some bugs, brings some minor modifications, sets the new 3D filter (Phong shading) -see my previous post-  and publishes a questionnaire I would be so happy to get feedbacks from - thank you to all guys from fractalforums.org who helped me till today -

Suggestion:
Put an option to choose a value to exponent of z in mandelbrot (like exist to choose julia value).
So will possible to do many kind of mandelbrot like z^(2.5,-0.2)+c.
Will be necessary to adapt the name of the saved file but...
Think about something like to choose other funtion on cos(z).

Thanks for improvements.

Hi Gerson,
Thanks for the idea. I am working on it since yesterday and... It's almost done
I release it within a few days.
I will propose also :
an exploration for Collatz fractals which are a  very different from all mandelbrot family sets
and maybe, if I kill all the bugs, a "Multibrot" for Julia set.
