Here's a First Draft.

We could get by on just this, but additions or changes are always possible!

I need ftp soon for Mandelbrot "Stars" for group designations like on V2A.

Same info as before?

I lost the 'puter the ftp program was on, and it was stored i that.  I'll need to dig through old emails and pm's to find the log in.

I plan a special Non-Mandelbrot for Strange Attractor stars - Maybe a BuddhaBrot?  Or even a Strange Attractor??

I thought we could group Programmer with Sponsor since they deserve special recognition.  Or should I make the Programmer group you suggested?

How would we decide who gets to be a programmer if people start asking for it?  Will it have special permissions so we have to think about who gets it and who does not?

I assume it will be tied to downloads somehow, but a lot of programmers don't upload to FF, like Xenodreambuie, The Mandelbulber Team, and even Lycium.

People who render on home made software they don't share?

I see grey areas.

But have zero complaints if we want the group - just preparing for the worst  (At least if you're a pessimist you are rarely disappointed!).

looks good. I preferred the old post-based groups. fractal fruit salat.. hm.. but if you like these, I don't mind.
I have no idea about the programmers. was just a thought. you're right, for now it's too many specials to think about, who gets it who not... might lead to problems
hm, maybe just add it, so we have the possibility later, and we can ask the community or the programmers themselves.

Fractal Fruit Salad was just funny.  Maybe not for such a high up group that lasts so long in terms of post count.

We can change names at any time!

I was just thinking of number of groups and post count needed for each.

I can duplicate exactly the groups from V1 and we can rename a few if we want.  Fruit Salad is optional.  I was really trying to find words that begin with "Fr" for titles.

I thought about Freak, but thought some people may not like being called a freak.

We already use Friend and Freeloader  (That's the zero post group).

Frog is cool, unless you're French...

But I must admit I didn't think of Frank!

Sure!

We can even use Fractal Fremen!  {I liked Frank Herbert's Dune stuff}

It's not really the names at this point, they can be changed with no effects elsewhere, it's the number of post count based groups and the range between "ranks"

Here is FF1's list for ease of reference:

Edit - see?

I toldja I thought about Freak and Fremen!

I was thinking of keeping fewer groups, but it only needs to be set up once and I don't mind if we have even more than V1.

Looking at that list I start to like that idea.
How about we just make some 10-15 groups and keep open, wait for some feedback in beta.

wohoo! strange attractor again.  8)

OK - I had to mess with the Yorky theme despite my pledge to leave it alone.

The stars for member groups had to be uploaded to the theme directory, and will need to be uploaded to every theme we choose to make active!

Yet another reason to limit themes to as few as possible.  If we add themes, it must be done in conjunction with uploading new copies of all 4 "Mandelstars" to that theme's "images" directory or you will get place holder *'s until it is done.

I'll upload them to every theme directory we currently have on site - but if more themes are added either do so yourself or let me know there's a new theme and you want me to upload them.  Either way works, but doing it as themes are added just makes it faster.  I don't mind doing it if you don't mind that I may be at work or not on this site when the theme is added.

I attached the images used in case you want easier access to them.

I'll post more here as more are added (like a Strange Attractor or a BuddhaBrot).

Anyone who has some we should use, just upload them here!  Please use the same pixel dimensions as the ones attached to this post  (20 x 20)

Stars working in all themes except konusal-bootstrap.  That theme behaves strangely - no stars show at all and I can't use any drop down menus at all, even with no-script totally disabled.

That theme should be removed.

Made a few quickie place holders, just so the main groups have unique stars.

See attachments.

The stars can be changed out, along with the number of them for each group, with minimal effort and we can even have different stars for each theme.

I like the Brots, but we can make this whatever we want at any time.  As I keep saying - it's getting the number of groups and their respective post counts that is more important than their names or starstuff.

Keep default rounded squares for new members.

Interesting thought - How new?  I have no star at all for the Freeloaders  (zero posts).  So you suggest the boring yellow thing for the first level group  (1 post to ?? posts)?

Or give it to the freeloaders?

Members get extra features with higher post counts. (Badges and or Icons)

Badges or icons is, I believe, a paid modification.

We spoke of it before, not sure if you were here.

Definitely under consideration!

Donation members could get badge and custom text.

Custom Text is easy - Frank's "Strange Attractor" is using the Custom Title field.

Mandelbulb sized to 20 pixels looks terrible and is an insult to it's complexity.

We can skip it, or insult it, or find a close up area (or coloring method) that works at 20 px.  No worries.

What you labeled "color code" in your image seems to be the Online/Offline indicator.
