Working on this too!

There are a few in place and lots needed - but I don't want to over-crowd it.

Started on Software Specific Galleries and stopped after 2 because I wasn't sure how many we want or if we want to limit the categories there at all.

By the way - I am using the attached Cow image for thumbnails I don't have examples from the specific software to use.

Please submit any images for use in that spot here - knowing that we are not sure where this is going and we may cram all softwares together in simple 2D & 3D categories - then trust users to tag their images with the software they used.

It will make things simpler and more complicated at the same time since I don't trust the general public to tag their images properly.

But I think "Require Keywords" is an option in gallery settings, which could be used as a reminder if I can customize the message for blank keywords.

But even that may not get those who just tag their images "Cow" and nothing else...

Lots to decide.

My vote says "Too Much is Better than Not Enough" and make extensive use of child categories.

It will get crowded  (see V1 for example!) but there are few decent alternatives.

I took the liberty of creating a category called "Fractal Forums II Inaugural Contest - Our Mascot!"

Obviously that is no commitment!

But we spoke about it a while ago, and it seems like as good a place holder as any.

I like it because the prize is both high profile and cost free.

As always, open to other ideas!

all pro for the inauguration mascot contest!

don't care for the gallery categories.

I like the idea of having few categories and using tags for what software it was created with.
but users will only do this if they know they are supposed to - so it should be written right near the tag-field.

I think that is one for the community to decide then.

I don't want a lot of them, but the individualized software categories get a lot of use on V1 so they may be good.  There is just 1 link to them on the main page and a reasonable amount on the page it leads to.

Some can go - and add more as requested.  But I think having them is far better than not, especially since I don't know how to put a notice near the "Keywords" entry field and still wouldn't trust people to use it right anyhow...

And I am leaning toward dropping the Naughty category since I can't make it work in the way I envisioned.

One more request over at smfhacks before trashing it.

And, of course, if people don't want it - I'll give in and get rid of it.  It's just  ...

I like it!

We still have to work within the limits imposed by the Gallery software.

So you have to pick a category for your image if you want to post it.

It's identical to the Gallery on the old site.

You can use Keywords to describe the other "categories" in which any one image fits.

For fractal program & author we have the user posting it always shown  (author) and we have a group section called Software Specific Galleries if you want it to be known primarily for that.

I don't think color, algorithm, or programing language apply to categories in the gallery.  They would make good keywords though.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make, so if I missed something, please explain further.

Just joined the new site and it's looking good so far.

Just found a spelling mistake in the names of the individual software galleries - there's only one l in Fraktaler (as in Kalles Fraktaler).

Simple to change I would have thought.

I'd love to request the FractInt gallery to come back.

I still have thousands of images to put in that one from my over crowded FractInt folder.  It's an old program, but it is the one a lot of us started with all those years ago.

It will make things simpler and more complicated at the same time since I don't trust the general public to tag their images properly.

I agree that leaving users to add tags is a recipe for disaster, unless those tags can be chosen from a list and are enforceable easily but even that would not rule out user error or whatever.

Attached is one of my best FractInt images if you'd like to use as a thumbnail.

I call it Alien Selfie.

Thanks for the FractInt gallery (even if only I requested it and you couldn't find another 4 members who wanted one!).

I have noticed that in other galleries there is a line that links back to the board, but not for the two images I have uploaded into the FractInt gallery.

Is that an oversight or intended?

Thanks
