I like educational videos over walls of text and pictures, they help me understand concepts better than anything else. Ive been looking on youtube for fractal videos and besides a hand full of popular ones that are already well known there are many many more that go unnoticed because of low view count or engagement. This makes it difficult to find videos through typical keyword searches. Though ive had some succsess with finding more obscure videos i also imagine that there are many others who are in a similar boat and may not have as much luck with finding them. I would like to suggest a new part of the Forum strictly for sharing educational videos of and about fractals as well as underlying math/physics/software engineering concepts. Im well aware that Fractal Movie Gallery exist and it serves its purpose really well to share art pieces, however i would also like a similar board for sharing Educational videos as well. Just a suggestion, maybe im the only one who feels this way.

Sounds like a great idea. Whenever I found an interesting video to share there never was a good place to put it. I'm not able to add a new (child-) board but one of the other moderators or admins will probably be able to, if they agree of course.

That sounds like a good thing...

Any user can...
Create a topic under "Fractal movie gallery" called "Educational videos"
Admin can pin that topic so it stays at the top and gets a highlight.
If it gets a lot of attention it can be moved to a child board of it's own.

Or (I) admin can create a "child" board under "Fractal movie gallery", the difference being that a child board will show up in the site board list right away.

The opening post should state the purpose of this new place, ie: layout/format and basic rules.

@DeusDarker would you be willing to moderate this thread/board according to the site Guidelines?

edit: I have created a child of the movie gallery, it is restricted to moderators only, DeusDarker is listed as a moderator for that board, make a nice introductory post and it will get pinned and locked, we can talk here a bit about what might go in the opening post  and any rules that might be required, once that's done it can go live.

Hey 3DickUlus Sorry for a late reply had some stuff happen IRL, sure i would be happy to moderate a it :) As for an introductory post maybe a rough draft might be:

Hello Everyone: This is a place where you can share any videos youve found of an educational/instructive manner relating to fractals and fractal related parts of science, math, and software engineering. The purpose is to create a repository of valuable information in video format that is easily acsessable to those who might need it. Please try to see if the video you want to share has already been posted as to avoid duplicates as best as possible. Thank you!

Something like that, any thoughts or things that you think should be added?

Is it going to be all fractal related videos? We have boards under "Fractal Programs Discussion, Help, & Support" for most (popular?) programs and that is where their tutorials should go.

...fixed typo, very minor adjustment to wording.

So not anything goes, rather, with the basic premise being: an educational/instructive nature relating to fractals and fractal related parts of science, math, and software engineering sounds like Fractal Institute at the bottom of the main page...
There you will find WTFract - Youtube ... it kinda got lost at the bottom of the page and hasn't been promoted or used much (at all) ... should maybe move the WTFract board (I like the name) instead of having 2? ... I'm not sure of what exactly was the intent of the "Fractal Institute" board, it predates my involvement here.

How do you feel about using "WTFract - Youtube" board? I have no preference and "The Educational Video Hub" may not be exclusively YouTube right?

I've created playlists with a lot of (fractal)-tutorials as. I'm afraid I neglected it the past year, but maybe there are some interesting vids there. So maybe the list can be helpful:

And more interesting stuff

@Caleidoscope Are they tutorials on how to use programs? if so they should go in the sections for the specific programs (I think? ciiw)

My understanding from DeusDarker's post is that this place will be an educational/instructive nature relating to fractals and fractal related parts of science, math, and software engineering which is not MB3D (and other) tutorials... is it?

We already have...
Fractal Programs Discussion, Help, & Support with child boards for Mandelbulb3d, Mandelbulber, Kalles Fraktaler, JWildfire, Fragmentarium, Other and this is where related tutorials should go.

WTFract - YouTube (under the Fractal Institute board) is completely empty right now.

I don't want to create more boards when we have these already (could be renamed or repurposed) and I don't want a board that is an unorganized collection of tutorials and info vids where it's hard to find things (we have already organized sections for the popular proggies)

My ideas are not carved in stone, the more input from users (and mods) the better, and as this is DeusDarker's idea I think that's where the strongest influence should come from as to the direction this should ultimately take.

Yes all of them are either tutorials or science.  (I made that channel especially to collect everything interesting and useful on one place. Before this forum even existed ;P   I just mentioned it so DeusDarker's ao.  can start grazing there to take out the best so that might be a good start.  Just a thought.   ;)

What a good idea!

And I have a preference for the Hub-location. The FractalInstitute looks a bit like wasteland to me, not much going on there... The Hub on the other hand caught my eye when I looked at the site's Home... :)

Of course it's up to you, DeusDarker ;)

The Fractal Institute has some interesting stuff, 151 Posts in 39 Topics, but hasn't lived up to what it was intended to be? yet?

@DeusDarker feel free to create the opening post anytime...

all mods can see the childboard? so feel free to start topics as examples and then open it up for everyone or open up immediately ???
