Is Chaotica still alive?
« on: September 02, 2018, 03:53:57 PM »
I registered in the forum and I asked: Is it still alive? Since the 2015 year nothing appened in that website. I mean: If I buy a licence is there anybody to help me? Or you all are gone? Nothing! No replies to me. Bah! That software seems to be very powerfull. I am afraid.

the author is sometimes in the "fractal chats discord server", as well as other knowledgeable users that might help you out, last I heard there was a private beta of a new version with GPU support among other things, but he is finding it hard to polish/finish and release it due to other commitments.

Yes, the Chaotica rendering is so slow! It must be updated because some people could buy the licence since they are looking for GPU support applications. Now, with the new generation GPU cards, it is impossible to work without OpenCL support. I don't do anything without it. For video I use Shotcut with CUDA support: seconds instead hours; Mandelbulber: milliseconds instead of minutes. I have a cryptocurrencies mining rig with a lot of power! Chaotica works are very very exiting and I would love to buy it!

you are rendering fractals with your mining rig? I've been looking at the idea since I have seen a few for sale, could you elaborate on your experience with this a bit?

I don't know if I am replying on what you are asking for. I'm trying, and sorry for my bad english.
In the world a lot of people undervalue the extraordinary power of linux. They are only watching Windows due the preinstalled pc politics of Bill Gates. He was able to send the world toward his product as none did in the past. But I am free. I use Linux since I started. Now my machine is very well configured. It is a mining rig, yes. The mining rig is not something of deep standard. Every big computer could be a mining rig. The power of Linux let us to install a machine to mine cryptos by a command line. Someone could configure his machine to play linux in a Desktop way. I did that. My one is a LinuxMint 19.3 machine. I installed every miner software that helps me to get money from crypto tokens and coins. I am also a trader. It appends that sometimes the Token and coins value is very low and the rig cannot mine in a profitable way. In Italy the electric power is very expansive. The mining job could be only a temporarily experimental thing since the power costs a lot. So: how use our rig if the power costs cannot be covered by crypto profits? The mining tasks are suspended for the period when the cryptocoins are low valued. When I started to use computers I was seventeen yo. I started as a 3D modeler with POV-Ray!!! I ever searched the power of mathematic CPUs. Now we have powerfull GPU. If you have a mining rig you probably have two or more GPU. A simple Nvidia GeForce 750Ti has 640 cores. I noticed that Mandelbulber renders a full hd pic (with a lot of difficultyes) in 3 seconds. I would like to render Chaotica fractals in seconds instead of hours. At the moment the gap between hours and seconds is an important gap. There is another reason that could suggests coders to implement OpenCL interpreter: there are only two kind of powered GPU in the world, AMD and Nvidia. Both works with OpenCL! All miners know what is OpenCL. And Linux works very well with it!!! I have an hard disk with windows and Mendelbulber. Windows works with OpenCL slower than Linux. The miners count lower hashes over Windows with OpenCL than Linux. And now (I starded to render 3D again after 20 years) Mandelbulber count more and more powerfull over Linux than Windows. So, Chaotica coders, please release an OpenCL version of software. It is more important than the Desktop fashion things!

the rig I was looking at had 16 nVidia cards, GeForce GTX 760 1152 CUDA Cores each !!!

the cost of electricity here is about 1 euro per day for all of my cooking, lighting and tech, if I get a crypto rig I will be using it to generate fractals, not for mining. >:D

Sorry for going to OT but I discovered today that Mandelbulber cannot render with more than ONE GPU card. See please this topic: https://fractalforums.org/mandelbulber/14/opencl-two-cards-configured-it-works-only-one/1833/new;topicseen#new.
I hope that in the future the coders consider the multi cards. Linux works very very very well with multicards. Mandelbulber (and I hope Chaotica) could take a good advantage from this. When I render a video with the SECOND card, the first let me use the computer as another computer. The second card is working and I can run another application freely!!

Hi there,

Sorry for just popping in; I'm very new, here.

You probably know this but Chaotica and Indigo Renderer have a parent company: Glare Technologies. I emailed Indigo Renderer with an issue, back in May. I got a response from Thomas and he did mention that there was a new version coming out but his comment was: 'at some point'. That from that what what you will. The email addy I used is: support@indigorenderer.com.

Hope that helps?

Hi. Thanks for replying here. For me is not important, I solved. I am not interested in Chaotica anymore because I found a very very very very entusiasming kind of software called Fractorium (WWW.FRACTORIUM.COM). It can do what Chaotica do. It is the same application that creates flame fractals in the same way of Chaotica. An interface to make settings and an engine to create images and animations. BUT:

  • OPENCL powerful renderer
  • support for MULTI - i repeat - MULTI GPU
I installed it with a simple DEB file in LinuxMint 19. I have two Geforce 750Ti with a total of 4Gb of fast RAM. It is so speedy that my CPU Eight core would have been enough. The rendering is instantly! Some milliseconds. I can see what appends during the settings variations immediately. I did not try the animations because I started just two days and I must learn about Flame2. But this tool is for me definitively the 2D Fractals; Mandelbulber is my 3D fractal tool; Shotcut is my video manager for every mounting work and transformations; and Blender is my 3D modeler. EVERITHING with full OpenCL and CUDA support. We have to think about it: CUDA. Greetings from Italy friends!
