Upgrade to SMF 2.0.17
« on: January 02, 2021, 10:18:09 AM »
Hi all,

As some of you may have noticed the site has been upgraded to SMF 2.0.17

For the most part it went well but the Recent Topics link on the front page doesn't seem to be hooking up properly, among other things.

I have enabled the Recent Topics to display on the front page and they are visible so the mod is still in working order and I'm not seeing any errors in the logs from clicking the link.

I will try to get everything working as it was before but please have some patience as I try to figure out the anomalies.

If you are familiar with php coding and mysql/mariadb access via php or SMF site code in particular, I welcome your input.

However, if you are just going to complain about using a free site with no ads then your permissions may have to be downgraded until the bugs get worked out, sorry for the inconvenience.

and thanks in advance for participating ;)

Ok... figured out a few differences (by trial and error) between the host server (virtual box) and my local linux setup

what worked perfectly here requires (at least) 22 additional steps as well as the FF customisations... will try this all again this evening PST

a reminder: if the site is not responding it's because it's busy so don't keep clicking refresh, the login page (if shown) will have a notice about maintenance mode and a login for admin only, don't try to login there anyways because it won't work.

I think some of the problems may have been caused by these things making the update script falter when the server is trying to respond to a clickety clicker while the database is being altered or files are being written.

...again, thank you for your cooperation  C:-)

Alright!

Got the Downloads section back but the Recent Topics thing is still off kilter, that feature came from an older mod (I think) that no longer shows as installable, if I can fix it I will but for the moment the site is what it is for now

Thanks again for your patience  C:-)

Finally! I think I'm done  :joy:

Upgraded to SMF 2.0.17
Reinstalled modpacks
Applied php create_function() to function() changes (php => 7.2)
Applied all of the custom stuff.

The only problems (so far) seems to be with YorkyTheme javascript files, so that theme may have more bugs than I can fix under the new version of SMF :(
...and the recent posts board is now up the front page instead of a link :-/

Bug reports welcomed! If it exists in all themes then it's a site code problem, if it exists in only 1 theme or in more but not all then it's a theme code problem.

One of the themes also reminds me of the layout of the old FractalForums... I love it.

2 new themes Star Wars (fancy could be any backdrop) and RRD (simple clean dark) , both responsive?, have been patched for a few of the mods and things like the donate button :D

always room for tweaks ;)

Thank you, Dick!

The Star Wars theme, though I Really Really love it, has one drawback: it's background image shines through the IOTM images, even when opened in the viewer...  :gallery:

And the RDD: not too fond of the red, really, a bit harsh on the eyes, but at least I can see the youtube videos now not using the rather horrid Dilbert theme

OOPS, clicked the wrong button  pardon me ;)

re: RDD

It was FULL 255,0,0 red on all buttons, I fixed it, now 200,0,0 with bright boarder for currently selected button with the rest gray, it was really too much with the full red everywhere.

I'll look at Lipido, maybe can turn off transparency for image containers ?
I actually like DilberMC ... mostly because it's done properly and works well... could use a dark variant though

hmm... the smilies look prickly in the dark themes :gum:

edit:  :-[ :P ok correct button... and recently (just now) fixed an error in RDD, it couldn't find the gallery url for thumbs? but it's not complaining any more :D

Thanks Dick,

I just found out the themes  :fp:  When I checked it I still got the red buttons, and also the transparancy in the other theme. So for now I'm happy with Yorky.  For me it all works fine. ;)

I think you did a hell of a job.   Thanks.  :dance2:

there may be some issues with YorkyTheme javascript files so some things may not work, if you are seeing the youtube video preview images in video links and they play properly then I have to assume it might be a browser issue, I use firefox and the video links are broken under Yorky but not the other themes.

What browser are you using?

That's really weird, Klazien... When I use Yorky (does not matter if I try either the light grey one or the dark grey one (on which of the two are you?)), I cannot see the youtube video's in chrome (which I especially enabled to test)... But good for you!
