NVIDIA Announces Availability for cuNumeric Public Alpha

Read how NVIDIA cuNumeric delivers accelerated computing to the NumPy ecosystem via a drop-in library replacement, scaling applications to over 1000 GPUs.

Yeah, this is quoted from an ad, but of great interest to NumPy users with really big crunching tasks ;) apparently this library is public, the source code is available on github

Really interesting. You still have to source up to 1,000 gpu's and that will co$t, even for the electricity :)

Not only 1,000 gpu's and that will cost, even for the electricity, but and is hazard of blackout, due too big traffic in european electricity.

The process of creating Bitcoin to spend or trade consumes around 91 terawatt-hours of electricity annually, more than is used by Finland, a nation of about 5.5 million.

...I would say Bitcoin is more of a hazard to cause blackouts.

edit: all you need to take advantage of it is more than 1 GPU... so... lets say you pickup a old mining rig with 5 GPUs at some discounted price... now you know that NumPy can successfully exploit them.

And if crypto crashes there will be plenty of used mining rigs to repurpose for quantum mechanics or protein folding or any other actually *useful* task (and pretty pictures count as useful compared to bitcoin, most fractallers will probably only spend an hour a day on average on it vs bitcoin 24/7).
