##### My new book is out! Exploring Scale Symmetry
« on: February 21, 2021, 12:05:06 PM »
Hi everyone, my new book is now out: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Exploring-Symmetry-Fractals-Dynamics-Mathematics/dp/9813278544

It's about lots of the different fractals that we have discussed and invented over the years here on FractalForums. So thanks for all the enlightening conversations and great explorations here on this site, I give a big shout out to FractalForums in the book on multiple occasions.

It is about 3D fractals and the visual ideas behind each one. There are lots of types described, and longtimers here will recognise many of them. Such as the Mandelbox and Mandelbulbs. But also the pyramidal surface fractal, do you remember this one?:

and some much newer ones such as this very spikey looking sphere tree:

Anyway, it is a nice big visual book of fractals and scale symmetry. I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks mclarekin and lkmitch!

Here's another one from the first chapter:

You might recognise it, I called it a semi-dimensional shape because it is exactly two-and-a-half dimensional.
As 3D shapes approach 3D they fill more space, but they are in a sense less rough because they become more like a solid block with a few cracks in it.

So the best examples of fractals are (in my opinion) half way between their topological dimension and embedding dimension. The above one is a surface (topological dimension 2) in 3D (embedding dimension 3) so half way is 2.5D.

It is simple to make, you just replace every square plane

with 32 square planes of one quarter the width

The dark squares here indicate a backwards facing plane. These 'inwards' planes mean the resulting fractal is self-avoiding.

Aha, there is a nice banner now, with a fancy 20% off thing. The link is https://doi.org/10.1142/11219 with code WSSB21
If anyone gets a copy, let me know what ya think

Yes, there's a very extensive preview through google books https://books.google.com.au/books?id=E2MhEAAAQBAJ, I'm kind of surprised publishers let them preview so much.
So you're just across the Tasman hey? Nice place, I visited once... a wee place called Waihi beach in the Coromandel peninsula. I'm in Brissie.

I downloaded and resized the banner and it now resides at the top of my site.

That's a great idea. The site is awesome by the way, but I'm getting a visual glitch... after a second of seeing the banner, it goes to a page of black, so you have to scroll downwards to get past the black. Happens on Firefox and Chrome and Safari.

@1Maniac I get the same as TGlad, black area where banner should be and it looks like a few other graphic elements are missing too

My apologies for the glitch. It's a caching issue! It should be corrected now!

My deepest apologies! I have racked my brain for two days and I believe I have the issue resolved now! Tested in Vivaldi, Firefox, and Chromium and the page loads properly in all three. Please let me know if you still have a problem viewing the site!

Ah, your brain racking must have worked, it looks great.
I particularly like the 'meet the masters' page- https://dsynegrafixdigitalarts.com/meet-the-masters-2/.
