We have added nice new and responsive theme. To make the transition as smooth as possible we set the classic design for new registrations.

To try the new design that will become default in the near future just go to your account settings
here
and change from Dilber to "Yorky"

You can switch between a dark and a light version of yorky and also change the main color here:

We would love to hear what you think of the new look!

*bumping* this thread as it dropped out of view - check it out people, it's a beautiful and elegant design that is worth trying.

we've invested a lot of time(and quite some money) into making this good and we'd really love to get some betatest-feedback if things are working properly here too.

I've been waiting for a nice dark forum theme for some time.

The old site's orange wasn't orange enough for me and the new site's orange colour was similar, more a brown then orange.

Yorky is very nice.  Very easy on the eyes.

Somehow Yorky doesn't want to play nice here (Firefox latest version on win7): in the dark mode I am hunting for things like the "post"-button no matter what colour I choose, and in the light mode I always get a black layout for a sec when I switch to another page... So for now I am back to this rather horrible blue theme (do Not start about the other colours available :})...

Can we get moar themes?

This looks interesting.
Wide A Responsive Theme for SMF 2.0.14

I found two dark themed userstyles that can be adapted for this site as well as on fractalforums.com.
Neither is perfect :))

Adding theme gets to be a nightmare since many modifications need to be configured for each theme and we have found some that work on the default theme and not others.

There are issues with every theme except the default.  We have the current multi-color theme so the site is familiar to those migrating from the .com site, and a responsive theme for those who need and can use it.

SMF plans a "2.1" release in the undefined near future.

We'll need to go through all that again once that version is released and will likely have all new themes to go with it.  For now, we want to keep installed themes to a minimum.

what sock said.

sabine, what do you mean with "hunting for things like the "post"-button no matter what colour I choose,"
you can give them a bright color (which you obviously already tried) so they are easier to spot.
and after all these buttons are at a fixed place -  once you get used to the new positions this is no longer a problem.

I can't reproduce that short blinking of the dark version in the light mode. but I've heard of it before - anon was that you?
anyone else experience that blinking?

I have seen the blinking issue.
Pipee mentioned it in a shoutbox post (something about loading css?).

It might be a consequence of combining the light and dark Yorky into one theme.

The dark theme is working wonderfully on my phone. It is nice that it scales with the display size and not resolution, otherwise everything on my phone would be unreadable, as it is a full HD (1920*1080) display that is 5 inches big.

The default theme should remain the previous lighter theme.  Much easier on the eyes.  I usually don't mind a dark theme, but something about the text (font maybe?) makes it harder to read.

Yes, I can sign in and set up a custom theme for myself, but I rarely sign in here unless I am posting so would rather have a more standard default theme without needing the extra step.

Put me in the prefer the old theme column.

Or, have an option to easily change the theme without having to log in and set it up?  A simple dropdown dark/light/whatever at the top of the page would do.

I find Yorky incredibly hard to use, bordering on impossible.

The combination of poor font choice (it's actually Non-Symmetrical!) and horrid color choices for fonts combined with my old computer with weird resolution breaking the display makes Yorky unbearable for me.

I thought we had agreed to keep the Dilber theme default for the entire beta period at least, and then put it to an open question and let the members decide.

I hope it was just an oversight when Yorky was set to default.  But Frank and I have been arguing about many things lately and I thought this one was not worth it in the midst of all the other disputes about basic forum functionality going on just now.

I agree with you though.  Yorky is needed as an optional theme for those on mobile phones and tablets, but us grown ups need a stable and fully functioning theme that is easy to read without losing content if we resize our browser windows.

If you go to your profile (under Look and Layout) and set the theme to Dilber MC it will stay for you when logged in.  But you'll still have to tolerate the mess when actually logging in at least until we reach a final decision on the default theme.  If you choose the "stay signed in" option it will keep you logged in and the theme of choice will always be on for you.

I do that despite the dangers of having an account with admin rights logged in all the time  (I do not do that on my work computer - just the home one!).  Yorky bothers me so much I'd rather take the chance than be security minded but have to deal with an impossible to use (for me) theme.  I know I can trust Lissa around my computer, and I think I can trust my cat  (but she is a sneaky one and I'm not 100% sure about her).  So it's not that big a risk...
